In this article, you’ll learn how to convert SCORM files into editable courses, upload SCORM packages to EducateMe as activities, and understand how learners interact with them and how progress and completion are handled on the platform.

Overview of SCORM

SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a widely used standard for packaging interactive eLearning content into a single file, usually a ZIP.

In EducateMe, you can use a SCORM file in two ways:

  • Convert it into a course. The AI Agent reads the file and creates an editable course from it.

  • Upload it as a SCORM activity. The file runs as it is, inside your course.

EducateMe supports SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004.

Convert a SCORM file into a course

Use this when you want to edit the content of a SCORM file in EducateMe. The AI Agent reads the file and creates the modules and lessons for you. You get a regular EducateMe course, not a SCORM activity. You can edit it like any other course.

This is for Admins.

Create a new course from a SCORM file

  1. Go to Courses and click Create course.

  2. Click Create with AI.

  3. Click the Turn SCORM into an editable course prompt (the uploading file window opens automatically).

  4. Or click + and add your SCORM file, then write the instruction manually.

  5. Send the message.

  6. The AI Agent asks, "How should we use the SCORM package?" Choose Adapted course or Transfer 1:1.

    • Transfer 1:1 keeps the content as it is in the file.

    • Adapted course lets the AI Agent adapt the content when it builds the course.

  7. Wait while the AI Agent builds the course. It shows an outline first, then creates the modules and lessons. This takes a few minutes.

  8. Review the course and edit what you need.

Add a SCORM file to a course you already have

  1. Open your course and go to the Edit tab.

  2. Click Add new.

  3. Click Convert SCORM. The AI Assistant opens.

  4. Click +, choose Add files, and select your SCORM file.

  5. Send the message. Your existing modules stay as they are. The AI Agent adds the SCORM content as new modules.

What you get

  • Modules and lessons with the text and images from your file

  • A course title and a cover image (for a new course)

  • Lessons you can edit like any other lesson

Tip: If the AI Agent cannot read anything in the file, it suggests the SCORM activity instead.

Upload a SCORM file as an activity

In EducateMe, SCORM packages can be uploaded and launched as interactive learning content directly within a course. SCORM files are treated as standalone learning materials and are not used for SCORM-based progress or completion tracking.

How to upload SCORM content?

To upload SCORM content:

  1. Navigate to your Course → open the Edit tab.

  2. Click + Add new.

  3. Choose the SCORM from the activity type menu.

  4. Upload your .zip SCORM package file (SCORM 1.2 and 2004 are supported).

  5. Add a title and description (optional).

Once uploaded, the SCORM activity will appear in your course program, ready for learners to launch.

How to re-upload the SCORM file?

To replace content:

  • Open the SCORM activity

  • Delete the current file

  • Upload a new version

Learner progress remains intact.

Best practices for using SCORM in EducateMe

  • Ensure your SCORM file is exported correctly from your authoring tool.

  • Test your SCORM file before publishing.

  • Use SCORM for interactive content that includes branching scenarios, simulations, or built-in quizzes.

This applies to the SCORM activity.

EducateMe supports uploading and launching SCORM packages, but it does not operate as a full SCORM runtime environment.

Instead, learner progress and completion are handled natively by EducateMe, based on course structure and activity completion logic.

SCORM files in EducateMe are used as interactive content, not as a source of learner progress data.

Expert Tip: Always keep SCORM packages lightweight (small file size + fewer embedded media), this reduces loading time and prevents issues when uploading.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between Convert SCORM and the SCORM activity?
A: Convert SCORM turns the file into a regular course that you can edit. The SCORM activity runs the file as it is, and you cannot edit its content in EducateMe.

Q: What SCORM formats are supported?
A: EducateMe supports SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 packages.

Q: Can learners resume SCORM content in the activity where they left off?
A: No. SCORM bookmarking or resume functionality is not supported. Create a course from the SCORM, not the SCORM activity, to keep progress.

Q: Can SCORM be used for certification or compliance tracking?
A: Not if you require SCORM-based tracking. For certifications, we recommend using EducateMe’s native activities and completion logic.

Q: Will my quizzes come over?
A: Only if the AI Agent can read the questions in the file. Check every quiz after the conversion.

Q: Does the converted course track SCORM completion and scores?
A: No. It is a regular EducateMe course, so progress and completion work the same way as in any other course.

Q: What if the conversion does not work as expected?
A: Open the course and check what the AI Agent created. If something is missing or wrong, ask the AI Agent to fix it in the chat, or edit it yourself. If the file cannot be read at all, upload it as a SCORM activity instead.
