Spotlight lets you feature important content right on your Learners' home pages — a new course, a learning path, an announcement, or a link to something outside the platform. As an Admin, you decide what gets featured, in what order, and how it looks. This article shows you how to set it up.
What is a Spotlight?
A Spotlight is a featured card that appears on the Learner home page. Learners see up to 4 Spotlights at a time — if you create more than 4, only the top 4 (by the order you set) are shown.
There are two types of Spotlight:
Template — a card with a title, an optional description, a required cover image, and (optionally) a piece of linked content or an external link.
Canvas — a card built from a file you upload (for example, a custom-designed banner or embed), with just a title.
How to create a Spotlight
Go to Spotlights in your workspace's admin sidebar.
Click Create Spotlight.
Choose the Spotlight type: Template or Canvas.
Fill in the fields for the type you picked (see below) and save.
Setting up a Template Spotlight
Add a Title.
Optionally, add a Description. If it runs longer than 2 lines, Learners will see it truncated with a Read more button that opens the full text.
Upload a Cover image — this is required and is shown as the card's background.
Optionally, link one piece of content (see Linking content below).
Linking content to a Spotlight
In the Link content field, you can either search for content already in your workspace, or paste a URL — both use the same field.
Search and select a Course, Learning path, Course library, or Knowledge Hub Article.
Or paste any URL to link to an External link instead. If you paste a URL without
http://orhttps://, EducateMe addshttps://automatically when you save.
Note: If the link you paste points to content that already exists in your workspace, EducateMe shows a warning so you can link the platform content directly instead.
Once linked, Learners see a call-to-action button on the card with a label that matches the content type: Open course, Open learning path, Open course library, Open article, or Open for an external link. External links open in a new browser tab.
What Learners see
On their home page, Learners see up to 4 Spotlight cards in the order Admins set. Each card shows the title, cover (Template) or uploaded file (Canvas), a truncated description with Read more if applicable, and a CTA button if content is linked.
