AI Assistant for Course Creation

In this article, you’ll learn how to use EducateMe’s AI Course Creation Assistant to generate full course structures, lessons, and activities instantly, along with tips for writing effective prompts.

EducateMe’s AI Course Creation Assistant helps you build ready-to-use courses in minutes. Just describe your idea, and AI generates the course outline, lessons, activities, and content - all editable and aligned with your goals.

What can the AI Course creation agent do?

With a single prompt, AI can generate:

• A full course outline with modules, lessons, interactive takeaway blocks, quizzes, and other activities.
• Structured written content inside activities.
• Interactive activities such as AI Roleplay.
• A consistent flow tailored to your topic, audience, and goals.

• Answer your questions relating your learning space.

• Add/remove questions, edit text and answer options, change correct answers, reorder questions, and update match-the-pairs content in quizzes.

• Generate new images for your course, or edit an image you already have — automatically matched to your workspace’s brand color.

• Use files from your Google Drive as a source for your course.

• Save your chats and continue them later.

How to create a course with AI?

  1. Go to Courses in your workspace and create a course.

  2. Click on AI assistant.

  3. Choose a sidebar chat mode or the following one.

  4. Write a prompt describing your idea. You can include:

    • Topic (such as Onboarding)

    • Audience (Junior Sales Reps)

    • Length or modules

    • Content style (beginner-friendly, advanced, practical)

    • Activities you want included (quizzes, AI Roleplay, assignments, forms, etc.)

  5. Click on the send button.
    AI will build:

    • Course program structure

    • Lesson content

    • Activities and quizzes

    • A clear flow you can edit before publishing

  6. Review and customize.
You can rewrite text or add your own content.

You can ask AI to generate images and add videos from public resources such as YouTube.

Choosing an AI model

Before you send a prompt, use the model selector next to the send button to choose which AI model builds your course:

• Auto (default) — automatically picks the model that gives the best balance of speed, accuracy, and performance. This is the right choice for most courses.

• GPT-5.6 Terra and Sonnet 5 — the same course-building capabilities, available if you simply have a personal preference for one model over another.

Each option also has a Thinking toggle. Turning it on gives the model more time to reason through complex or multi-part prompts, though it takes a bit longer to respond. Thinking is available with Auto as well as the other two models, and your model and Thinking choice are remembered for next time.

Add context from your Notion workspace

If your team keeps existing docs in Notion, connect your workspace so the AI Assistant can read them while building or updating a course:

  1. Click the + button next to the message box and select Add from Notion.

  2. Click Connect Notion and choose which pages to grant access to on Notion’s own screen.

  3. Select the granted pages from the + menu to attach them to your prompt.

Note: Granting a parent page also grants every page nested under it, and pages added under it later are included automatically. The AI Assistant always reads a page’s current content, not a saved copy.

You can grant more pages at any time — your existing pages stay available. Each admin connects their own Notion account, so pages you’ve added aren’t visible to other admins unless they connect their own.

Add context from Google Drive

If your team keeps documents in Google Drive, connect it so the AI Assistant can read them while building or updating a course. You can use Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, PDF, DOCX, TXT, and MD files.

  1. Click the + button next to the message box and select Connect Google Drive.

  2. Sign in and allow access on Google's screen. Then return to the file selection.

  3. In Google's file picker, select the files you want. You can select several files at once.

  4. The files appear in your sources with the file name, a type icon, and a link that opens the original in Google Drive.

  5. Write your prompt and send it. The AI Assistant reads the current content of the files.

Note: The AI Assistant always reads the current content of a file, not a saved copy.

To add more files later, click +, open Google Drive, and select Add from Google Drive. The files you already picked are listed there, and you can search them.

To disconnect Google Drive, click +, open Google Drive, select Configure, and click Disconnect.

Each admin connects their own Google Drive. Files you pick are not visible to other admins.

Chat history

The AI Assistant saves your chats, so you can come back to them later. A chat is saved when you send your first message, and its name is created automatically from that message.

History is saved per user and per course. Only you can see your chats, and a course shows only its own chats.

Open a saved chat

  1. Open the AI Assistant in your course.

  2. Click the chat name at the top of the AI Assistant. (If you have no saved chats yet, the button is not active.)

  3. Select a chat from the list. Chats are sorted by last activity, with the most recent first, and grouped under Today, Yesterday, and Older. The chat you have open is marked with a dot.

  4. To find a chat, type in the search field at the top of the list.

  5. Continue the conversation in the message box.

Start a new chat

Click the chat name, then click New chat. New empty chats are not saved. Each time you open a course, the AI Assistant starts a new chat.

Rename or delete a chat

  1. Open the chat you want to change.

  2. Click the three dots at the top of the AI Assistant and select Rename or Delete chat.

  3. To rename, enter the new name and click Confirm.

  4. To delete, click Delete to confirm. Deleting a chat is permanent. You cannot restore it.

If you delete the open chat, the AI Assistant switches to a new chat.

Turn a SCORM file into a course

Upload a SCORM file in the message box. The AI Agent converts it into a regular course that you can edit. You can also add it to an existing course as new modules. See the SCORM article for the steps.

Prompt tips

For best results, include:

• Goal: “Teach the basics of HR compliance to new managers.”
• Audience: “Non-technical employees with no prior experience.”
• Format: “5 modules with practical examples.”
• Content style: “Short, simple steps.”
• Activities: “Quizzes and one AI Roleplay.”

Example prompt:

“Create a 5-module intro course on workplace communication for first-time managers. Include short lessons, quizzes, and one AI Roleplay for difficult conversations. Use simple, practical language.”

What do learners experience?

Learners see AI-generated courses exactly the same way as manually created ones:

• Clear lesson structure
• Activities organized inside modules
• Smooth navigation and consistent flow

AI supports creation - delivery remains simple, structured, and user-friendly.

Expert tip: If you already have training materials, paste a PDF file into the files attachment section 🧷 the prompt. The AI will match your tone and style, giving you much more accurate content.

FAQ

Q: Can I mix AI-generated content with my own?
A: Absolutely. You can rewrite or expand everything.

Q: Can the AI Agent edit quizzes that already have submissions?

A: No. If a quiz has existing learner responses, the AI Agent will decline to make structural edits and explain why. You can delete submissions first to unlock editing, or create a new quiz for future learners.

Q: Does AI add images or videos?
A: Yes. It automatically generates images for your content — matched to your workspace’s brand color — and can add videos based on the topic. You can also ask it to edit an image you already have instead of generating a new one from scratch.

Q: Can the AI Agent edit quiz questions and answers?

A: Yes. It can add/remove questions, edit question text and options, change correct answers, reorder questions, and modify match-the-pairs content. Note: quizzes with existing learner submissions cannot be edited — the agent will explain why if that's the case.

Q: Can I select a whole folder from Google Drive?
A: No. Selecting a folder does not give the AI Assistant access to the files inside it. Select the files themselves.

Q: Can the AI Assistant search my whole Google Drive?
A: No. The AI Assistant can only use the files you pick. In the Google Drive menu, you can search among those files.

Q: What if the Google Drive connection stops working?
A: If the connection has expired, was removed, or you lost access to a file, the menu shows Connect Google Drive again. Click it and allow access again.

Q: Can other admins see my chats?
A: No. Chats are saved per user and per course. Only you can see your chats.

Q: How long are chats kept?
A: Chats are kept until you delete them. If a course is deleted, its chats are deleted with it. If a user is removed from the workspace, their chats are deleted.
