How to Customize the Course Menu Sidebar

In this article, you’ll learn how to add custom links to the course sidebar, embed Notion pages, connect external services, and create rich in-platform content using the Custom Links editor.

Custom Links allow you to enrich your courses by adding helpful resources directly to the Learner sidebar. These links appear in a dedicated Resources section, giving learners quick access to external tools, reference materials, or custom content without leaving the course.


How to create custom links?

  1. Go to Courses.

  2. Select the desired course.

  3. Navigate to the Custom links section.

You can add an unlimited number of custom links per course. These links can point to:

  • Embedded Notion pages

  • External web services (like Slack, Google Docs, YouTube)

  • Custom content

4. Click + Add menu link


How to add custom content to the course menu sidebar?

Use the Content option in the Custom menu links tab to add any other type of content to the course menu sidebar that does not fall under Notion page or external page, or service:

The content type of Custom links has a comprehensive editor that allows building a well-structured content with tables, lists, checklists, subheadings, etc, as well as incorporating:

  • attachments

  • images and videos

  • Looms

  • Google tools

  • Typeforms

  • Miro boards

  • Calendly scheduling pages

  • Figma pages and many more.


How to add a Notion page to the course menu sidebar?

  1. Click + Add menu link, then choose Notion page.

2. In Notion:

  • Click SharePublish.

3. Upload the Notion page URL.


How to add external pages and services to the course menu sidebar?

Use the Custom link option in the Custom menu links tab to add links to any external pages and services (e.g., Slack workspace, YouTube, etc.):

Content type of Custom links has a comprehensive editor that allows building a well-structured content with tables, lists, checklists, subheadings etc., as well as incorporating:

  • attachments

  • images and videos

  • Looms

  • Google Docs and Forms

  • Typeforms

Q: How can I see custom links in my account?

A: As an Instructor or Admin, you cannot see added custom links in your account on the left sidebar; only Learners can.
