Course Activity Access Types allow instructors to control when learners can view and complete activities within a program. By choosing different access rules, you can structure the flow of learning whether it should be open, sequential, or module-based.
Understanding access types
EducateMe offers three activity access modes:
All activities are available
Learners can access every activity in the course at any time.Current and previous modules’ activities are available
Learners can access activities within the current module and any modules before it.Current and previous activities are available
Learners move through activities one by one, unlocking content as they progress.
These settings allow you to design learning journeys ranging from fully flexible to tightly structured.
How to manage access type?
To adjust Access type settings, navigate to the course General settings:
The default setting for all newly created courses is that the Current and previous activities are available.
Pro tip: Explore the differences between different activity types by referring to the Activity Types collection.
In Self-paced courses, the whole course module, along with its activities, can also be scheduled to open on a specific date/time to save time on scheduling each activity separately.
Check out more in How to schedule modules.
Expert Tip: Choose Current and previous activities are available for compliance, onboarding, or skill-building programs where sequential learning is important.
Use All activities are available when you want learners to explore content freely.
Activity visibility by Tags
You can control access to individual activities within a course using learner tags.
This allows different learners to see different activities inside the same course, without creating multiple course versions.
To set this up, open an activity, go to Settings, change Visibility to Tags, and select the required tag(s). Only learners with the selected tag will be able to access that activity once they are enrolled in the course.
This is useful for scenarios like one course with multiple levels (beginner, advanced), role-specific modules, or region-based compliance content.
